Profile Innovation challenges firms to develop along several dimensions at the same time, requiring managerial skills that are visionary, dynamic and multidiciplinary. The key objective of the MIB programme is to build competencies designed to meet these challenges through integrated problem solving for business development. Such competencies are particularly important in a world characterized by rapid change and uncertainty. Students learn to critically analyse innovative activities in knowledge intensive companies. Case-based exercises and projects form an essential part of the learning process as well as the exam format. Since the programme is taught entirely in English, students learn to analyse problems and implement solutions clearly and concisely in that language. Candidates obtain a competence profile that combines a broad management perspective on innovation and business development with specialized skills in knowledge building, organization, strategy and market development, and in management control and finance. The competence profile qualifies candidates to work within a broad array of business functions in knowledge intensive private companies, for example as management consultants, controllers and business analyst, in jobs related to product management and organizational development or as leaders of innovative start-ups. Other employment possibilities include jobs in industrial federations or goverment agencies. Aim The MIB programme deals with the specific conditions under which the management of innovation and business development promotes international competitive advantage. The competitive environment offers both threats and opportunities that must be understood and responded to. Students are trained to analyse the dynamics of the business environment and the scope for strategic response. They are trained to find the core problems that may impede innovative performance, to undertake such analysis in effective teamwork, and to capably communicate results. Given the uncertainties of the future direction of innovation, combined with the need to archieve short-term goals, students learn to: - Develop innovation strategies
- Align innovation with market development
- Manage intellectual capital
- Organize innovation processes
- Manage inter-firm alliances
- Attract venture capital
- Commercialize R&D projects
- Leverage knowledge as a business resource
The MIB programme strongly encourages an active learning environment emphasizing interactive lectures, case-based exercises, student presentations, interaction with managers from business practice, team building and project work aligning theoretical analysis and practical problem solving in innovative firms.
